Centre Redevelopment

An Unavoidable Delay

In late 2007, Cairns City Council approved our plans to expand Mt Sheridan Plaza. Unfortunately we have been forced to place those plans on hold while a legal challenge to our proposal is resolved. The Council's decision is being appealed in the Planning and Environment Court. The appeal relates to technical and planning matters. Our legal team will be strongly defending the appeal to ensure our vision for Mt Sheridan Plaza's expansion becomes a reality.

We are obviously extremely disappointed by the delay. Once the issue of the appeal has been resolved we are looking forward to working in partnership with the Plaza's retailers, Council and the community to create a larger, improved centre to cater for the area's long-term shopping needs.

Our Plans

Mirvac is working to expand shopping opportunities for local families.

Our plans include:

  • A large Kmart
  • A new full-line Woolworths supermarket
  • Extra car parking spaces, including a new basement car park, bringing the total to 1,117 car spaces
  • A new food court
  • New entries to the Plaza off Barnard Drive and Foster Road
  • Community facilities such as a refurbished Parents' Room with secure toddlers' play area, additional seating and a rest area
  • A centre built and operated using key principles of environmental sustainability as encouraged by the Green Star Shopping Centre Design Rating Tool
  • Continued provision of good public transport access.
